Though have a feeling at age 58, with arthritis, bad joints and diabetes, hiking thru-trail on the AT is no longer possible. When I'm along the Skyline Drive in Northern Virginia, I do try and visit the areas where the trail is close to the Drive. Makes me feel like I've 'hiked the AT' a bit that day. Maybe some day, I'll day hike portions...

Living in Florida, training for the slopes was hard so he ran up and down the stairs in the new Florida Capitol Building. The first time he went back after his completed the trail, the security guards hung a big banner for him with their congratulations - and it was signed by the governor.

He also canoed the Mississippi from Minnesota to New Orleans.
