Post-COVID
Anyone dealing with lingering symptoms?
I don't think I have "long" COVID - I only had COVID 2 months ago (1st time).
But I normally feel so great, and now I have headaches, congestion, fatigue. Fortunately not really awful symptoms.
Wondering what to expect.
TIA!

(47,622 posts)i think I've had it 2 or 3 times. I'm fully vaxxed all along. The lingering symptoms are sinus congestion more than before, tickling cough. I've had pretty good results treating it as inflammation, which is to say food allergies. If I cut sugar to zero, go light on dairy and wheat, and keep a light balanced diet that's when I feel best. By light I mean complex carbs, vegetables, quality protein. Overeating causes a relapse, and don't load on the junk food.

(25,983 posts)I've lost about 10 lbs. in the past 2 months, since becoming infected.
I like your suggestions, though, and will keep an eye on my diet - light and balanced!
Thanks!

(9,339 posts)They mention many with Long Covid have exausted T cells.
I was very tired after Covid. Stayed in bed for 10 days - then had to take a nap for 2/3 months.

(25,983 posts)I'm still working for myself at age 68, planned to continue till at least 70.
Re-thinking this, depending on how my symptoms progress/continue or diminish.

(4,896 posts)and I'm still experiencing fatigue and brain fog. OTOH I'm 76 and this all might be just what happens to old folks. It did take me a long time to get over a debilitating fatigue, where I was sleeping just about all day long--4 hour naps in the morning and afternoon--and I haven't regained all the weight I lost (still down 10 lbs), which I'm not really complaining about but the doctor doesn't like it.
Here is something strange I've experienced: Covid (and I just about died from it) made me somehow nicer. I'm not so snarky in daily life, I seem to have greater patience with people who fuck up, and I'm more compassionate, even toward people on tv. This is not a sign of aging afaik.
It sounds like you're getting better. Be patient; it's a horrible disease, and we survived it. That alone is cause for rejoicing.

(25,983 posts)I've experienced a 10 lb. weight loss, too! I didn't know this was a typical effect - wonder if it is due to the loss of appetite (smell, taste)?
I don't know that I'm nicer...but, for the first time, I understand better what it feels like to be debilitated (if even only sightly). So, maybe more understanding of that?
I hope I'm getting better. Time will tell, I guess.
Thank you!

(25,983 posts)I've always been so relieved that I don't suffer headaches, as others do! But now, since Covid, I do. They aren't like migraines, but low-level and pretty constant.
5 mos., huh? I will be very glad if mine are gone by then (November).
Thank you!

(3,112 posts)Hydration and rest if you can get extra. If you use essential oils I use a drop or two of frankincense on pulse point and then inhale for a bit. You might find something of interest in this video. I found it very helpful.
Im not a medical professional. These are just some things I continue to follow. Take care and be easy with yourself! 💗💗🙏🏼

And Ive had tinnitus develop since Covid as well.

(25,983 posts)Yes - first time ever for me with brain fog! Sometimes, I find it a little comical. But, wouldn't want it to last, since I'm still working!
This is kinda like when I had our newborn; my body/brain is telling me to slow down and take care!
I hope your tinnitus goes away and you get your mojo back soon!
Thank you.

(1,409 posts)Sorry for replying to an old post. The subject seems relevant with Covid still running rampant.
Three years ago I caught COVID despite being vaccinated and practicing social distancing. About 6 weeks later I ended up in the ER with GI issues and 2 months later back in the ER where I stopped breathing during admission.
After being hospitalized for 2 months I was released with chronic lung damage, chronic kidney disease, chronic pancreatitis, atrial fibrillation, and a host of lesser ailments. I was an academic professor. I have been disabled for 3 years. There's cognitive delay, brain fog, weakness and fatigue and it stopped improving long ago.
As to what to expect...it took about 6-12 months for symptoms to improve although full functionality was never restored. If congestion and fatigue are the worst you're dealing with my bet would be that your symptoms will improve with time. Just keep an eye open and take note of any unusual symptoms appearing out of nowhere.

Thanks for responding, and here's to continued improvement!
