Minor chronic issue-bad chapped lips

I had it when I was a kid. Now its back, and horrible. Flakes pain and bleeding, with this crust around the outline of my mouth.

No amount of chapstick, vaseline, or special lipbalm keeps them hydrated. As soon as it wears off, boom! Smiling is a problem

Anyone else suffer and have some input how you fixed this, or managed it? I drink lots of water, too

My dentist put something on my lips that was very helpful when I was in his chair and had badly chapped lips. Like Vaseline without the smell.

12. Olive oil can be very soothing to badly chapped hands. Probably worth a try on your lips.

A friend of mine, who is of Italian heritage, told me about this. During a typical day at the pediatric office, I'd probably wash my hands upwards of thirty times a day, and getting to the cracked-and-bleeding knuckles point was pretty common. I used to call myself Lady MacBeth.

I tried the olive oil suggestion, and was astonished at how effective is was. Fast, too. I put it on at bedtime, and there was huge improvement just overnight. Soaked right in, and didn't leave me feeling greasy.

Something to know about Vaseline - it's a good barrier, and helps keep moisture in, but is not a source of hydration on its own.

Also, make sure you are not using something intended to heal cold sores. Those products dry things up. Many an unknowing person has used this stuff the wrong way, and kept applying and re-applying it, thinking they weren't using enough because their lips kept getting dryer and dryer

15. Vit. E for me. Not the oil, but straight VitE, applied directly to your lips.

I had your problem for the longest time, so bad that my lips would crack and bleed (and I was in a very humid climate!). The VitE capsules were the only things that helped.
