I'm thinking of getting a sound bar for my tv or a headphone. Any users of either one? Both a little pricey so want (Original Post) SheilaAnn Jul 2024 OP
Sure they're a little pricey, but to me, they're worth it, being that I'm profoundly hard of hearing. It does help. SWBTATTReg Jul 2024 #1

really use the sound bar too much, as I would bother others w/ the sound bar, so I use the closed caption feature on the TVs extensively (I recommend this to you). Get used to the CC, and you won't really miss that much, and it's nice, I don't have the TVs, radios, etc. blaring anymore (which I have burned out the volume controls on 3 TVs thus far).

Good luck to you.

It replaced a Bose 300, that went to the family home. Both are nice. Bose can be a little spendy, but they make a quality product.
I’ve heard LG ones that sound good, for less money.

I got a TCL brand one with no sub woofer for about $90. Sounds great, speakers are aimed forward. Just make sure it has ARC or audio over HDMI so the bar takes the place of the TV speakers and volume controls off the TV remote works

Costco or Sam’s sometimes have deals
That big box chain store that claims to give you a best buy
Wallymart
Target
Amazon

The brand doesn’t matter much. You want the ARC (audio return channel) feature on an HDMI port to have the sound bar replace your tv speakers. Some even will let you plug in headphones or give you a Bluetooth audio link for private listening. Amazon has a decent TCL Alto R1 for $90 which would meet most of your needs, I think

Double check with the store or vendor you buy it from that there is a return policy window in case it isn’t compatible

I don't know about soundbars. I can say that I am really enjoying my AKG Y500 Bluetooth headphones for music, streaming, and videos, all on the computer or tablet. Comfortable and excellent sound, love the features.

headphones are actually a REALLY good alternative to a soundbar...my hobby is high end portable audio(amps, dacs, iem's) and when you hit a certain price point(approx.300-500$$ or so, the returns diminish quite a bit and to the person asking where to buy vizio soundbars, I got mine at amazon...cheers. p.s. akg makes some very good cans.

by Westinghouse a few years ago and the sound was barely audible.

I bought a sound bar and it didn’t help very much. I ended up giving it away and buying a Sony.

The picture and sound are superb — there’s no comparison to the other TV. And no soundbar is needed.

Sony and LG are made by the same company I think. And Best Buy has open box deals sometimes that knocks the price down.

I asked the other day about if anyone knew if there were sound bars that had a filter to cut background noise and music. The zvox does. This morning I did some searching. Here’s some names. Soundfun Mirai, Zvox, and Serionic. Do a search for voice clarifying sound bar.
