Does anyone here fear the future?

I'll be quitting my job soon due to disability. It's a life change, and I do worry about having enough to live on. I keep worrying about my future. I know it's uncertain for us all.

Anyone else deal with future worry?

Been checking housing costs in Ontario (we're in Michigan) and a house that would run
about $250,000 here is in the $600,000. Plus we would lose Medicare and have to buy health
insurance. I don't even want to guess what they would run in the Vancouver.

Our dog is 9 years old and I won't put him on a plane.

Ireland?

Portugal? They at least have what they call a retirement visa. Plus a lot of expats, mostly British.

If the big, old, lying cheating pile or orange shit does win in 2024 how would that affect housing
prices. We're old, 70 and 69, little late to start over.

I just don't know. I don't plan on living more than 85 and I'll be 75 by the time the next (or god willing Biden) is sworn in.

I try not to worry, I do. But it's so hard sometimes. I could never afford Canada

unless their immigration accepts you. Not likely at my age!

We are looking too, as we are only 3 hours from the border. Just want a soft landing spot - esp. for 28 yr. old daughter - if needed. So, will definitely be a "downsize."

My experience is the best way to alleviate an anxiety is to examine the problem and come up with a plan. Don’t try to ignore it because it will wake you up in the middle of the night with cold sweats.

Figure out as best you can what your income will be, what your expenses will be, and come up with a budget. Your budget might show your income falling short, but you will know by how much, and you can start to think about how to address it. In my experience, once you start to address the problem, the anxiety immediately starts to fall away. For me, the anxiety derives more from the failure to do anything than from the problem itself. And once you take the first step, ideas start to come to you, and the problem becomes easier to talk about and work through.

It's expected that we prepare ourselves for the worst possible outcomes in EVERY situation but more often that not we surprise ourselves when things turn out much better than we anticipated. I lost it all TWICE in the last month but a plan and action gave me confidence and a renewed sense of security. There are tough times but as someone once said: Sometimes things work out for the better, sometime the worst but things always work themselves out.

It's the other things we didn't see that surprise. I have every worry in the book. I don't know if I need a shrink, a lawyer, a guru. I don't know what to do most days. But I did learn to micromanage everything. Each movement, each mile, each trip to the fridge. Make sure it provides good benefit at good value. Then you can face the bigger issues on solid ground.

18. I fear what's coming for our country and politics.

As far as my personal future, I worry that our retirement plans won't work out for a variety of reasons, worry about my adult kids and whether they're happy and healthy, worry about my elderly parents' wellbeing, and so on. Just buckets of worry. Not a new issue for me though, I am a worrier by nature.

23. Very much so! I'm 62 and will need to work till I'm at least 70. My husband is 72 and disabled

with severe COPD and pulmonary hypertension. Staggering health care costs have prevented us from saving enough for retirement. A common inhaler costs up to $80.00 with insurance. Funny, the same one in the UK is barely 8 dollars. It's so nice to live in a country where you can go bankrupt from medical bills 🙄

With good reason as far as I’m concerned. Anyone who isn’t worried isn’t paying attention. I admire people who have positive attitudes, but those who have to disparage people who dare say anything negative are unrealistic in my view.

Our country is in the middle of an internal struggle for the life of the democracy. Our very Capitol was attacked. We are still in the middle of a pandemic.

We should all be worried.

Totally agree about sometimes necessity to be "negative". I'm more negative , I guess, but my life is uncertain and in upheaval right now.
