Had a cortisone shot for shoulder impingement

Took meloxican Rx. Finally out of pain. Been over a year. Don't feel as anxious. Wondering if not being in pain is helping.

I have osteoporosis with quite a few fractures, including the spine and the cortisone shots are like a miracle.

Yes chronic pain can increase our stress hormones which impact mood.

12. I wanted to share my shoulder experience with you earlier. I got distracted.

I had both of mine go out simultaneously a few years ago. I could barely get dressed, bathe and perform other basic activities as you can imagine. I was eventually healed by using methods that were given to me by an Occupational Therapy provider.

I took no medication, no shots and refused surgery. Which I avoid at all costs because once the cutting starts you may not be able to end it. It took almost three months but one day I was just better. It was like a miracle.

I know not everyone has the schedule flexibility that I have. But I took it easy on myself and my pain eventually disappeared and my mobility returned. I was told at the onset it could go either way but I was also advised that surgery wasn't always successful.

I was told that sometimes shoulders self heal. So, I went with that notion and hoped. I feel lucky mine did. But it took time, lots of mindful movements and patience.

I hope you're fortunate to continue with being pain free. I'm so glad you found relief.

14. How was the shot itself? I ask because I used to work with a guy

who had been a minor league pitcher. He developed a shoulder problem, and the doctor told him he was going to give him a cortisone shot, and then left the room.

He returned with a syringe, and three large men. The guy asked what the men were for. The doctor told him they were there to hold him (the patient) while the shot was administered. The doctor proceeded to put the needle into his shoulder and moved it around until he started screaming in pain. At that point the cortisone was injected.

The Dr. told him he wouldn’t be able to raise his arm the next day. The second day he’d be able to comb his hair, and the third day he could resume throwing, all of which proved to be true.

16. Good. That was back in the late 60s, early 70s.

A couple of years ago, though, doctors were worried that a serious infection had moved to my shoulder, so they drew fluid. THAT was an eye opener. Especially when they came up dry the first time.
