(6,671 posts)maybe they are so unhappy with themselves or never were able to get past their own horrific experiences...or, maybe they are just selfish individuals who were never taught to treat others like you want to be treated.
I am upset when I come across people like that because I just can't understand it. But, I just can't let that get me down. I try to make myself feel sorry for them ... because there must be something wrong to act that way?
My sister had a similar experience like you (I was the youngest child and too sick to be abused). My sister was the one who got most of the abuse. She is now over 50, has adopted 4 children, has a Master's degree and works at a residential facility with kids with severe developmental disabilities. I admire her for what she has accomplished, her resiliency and patience, and she is the poster child for putting ones own horrible experiences behind her and helping those who are in need.
Just remember that you are not alone

(72,065 posts)just where does mean end and just not human begin? there are some people so mean, that i hate being the same animal as they are.
been one of my big life lesson to be pissed at something, strongly opposed to something, but not let it eat me up to the point where it eats my humanity as well.
good thing there are folks like you who know that the more you banish mean, and replace it with acceptance and good will, the bigger that cloud of good around you is. you deserve your many friends and your good life tobin. you earned them.

That is one excellent insight, and I thank you for saying it!

(72,065 posts)that was a hard fought one, and one that is especially hard to fight in times of depression and trouble. easy to get sucked into the muck.

(6,581 posts)The person who seeks to feel good about themselves by feeling bad about others is truly pathetic.
