But I have been on lexapro for a few weeks now for my anxiety and I feel happy for once in my life. Seriously. I have had anxiety issues all of my life and I finally took care of it. All because I got a job with good healthcare. It makes so much difference. I don't dread going to work anymore. I don't dread paying bills. I don't dread going places which was a huge trigger. I feel good. Thanks to having healthcare. Fuck the gop trying to take it away.

(30,235 posts)I love my meds and I upped them after the orange blob took over our WH.

(979 posts)But the orange turd made them so much worse. I'm glad they are working for you too!
I have PTSD and didn't know it for decades. I've spent half my life in therapy and I think it has made me a unique and caring human. In order to understand suffering, I think we too must suffer. It is what you do with it. Meds have kept me stable so that I can do deep discovery of what I am. Each time I look around for the one who thinks this I see nothing except this transitory body and know that is not the thinker.

(979 posts)I also have ptsd. I saw my cousin die on the side of the road after getting hit by a car trying to get on the school bus. That was years ago but it still haunts me. These meds have made me so much richer with life. I still need to go on adhd meds but the doc says I can do that next visit. He didn't want to overload me with meds which I appreciate. My wife is a minister and she believes in lots of therapy and holistic meds. I appreciate that about her. She is open to all cures. I really do think my suffering has helped me be super empathetic which is both a blessing and a curse. But I take it as it is.

(30,235 posts)the meds are part of the all. I'm grateful to be able to live more fully. I still have crowd phobia and I cater to some of my fears and others I push aside. I can't see a need to step into crowds.

(979 posts)But I'm hoping to one day get over that.

(7,925 posts)Modern medicine has made 2 cousins, schizophrenics, able to live with their families outside of institutions. I have several friends who use anti-anxiety pills and they, too have better quality of life.
Absolutely f anyone who touches our healthcare.

(979 posts)It is amazing how far medicine has come. I wish your cousins the best. Good for them for seeking the help they need.

(24,759 posts)that for many people there are meds with virtually no noticeable side-effects that allow them to vastly improve their quality of life and their relations with people around them. It usually falls on deaf ears. Congratulations blur256, and thanks for sharing.

(10,420 posts)I take them as well with similar results. They have changed my life vastly for the better and I don't have any side effects.
blur256
(979 posts)But I'm so glad it is helping You! My only side effect is that this medicine make me sleepy but that is a good thing because I was having trouble sleeping. Not anymore!

Then Ive realized I wasnt just lazy. I needed this for years. I wasnt traditionally sad and kept beating myself up for being lazy and lethargic since... hell, for 20 years. We planned to leave me on it until a few months after my dad passes - hes all I have left of the older generation now and he is failing quickly, and the stress of waiting for the other shoe to drop is getting to me - but I think I needed it all along.
I came out here to this forum to ask about a Lexapro side effect. Anyone else get the diarrhea? Im getting tired of thrice-daily events. All Ive found to correct it is to eat less grains and vegetables. Im trying to eat MORE healthy foods like that and I want to reduce dairy and eliminate most meats. 🤨 what do you guys do to help it? Imodium is a magic bullet when you are sick, but I cant imagine its healthy to take regularly!

(979 posts)I had some issues when I first started but now I do not. I'm hoping your body will get used to it. Mine did. But my biggest thing was that it made me tired (which my Dr said wasn't supposed to happen) and my wife experienced that too. So there is hope your body will make it work. I think it is always rough for the body to take on new meds. Hang in there Trust me when I say it is worth it.

(23,083 posts)and take into consideration what your concerns are.
With all meds it's a good idea to be patient and give them time to start working.
My daughter has had objections and side effects when new meds are prescribed, but given time they often will begin to work.
My big concern is not knowing the future where this country might be concerning mental health. Will Republicans one day prevail with their YOYO (You're On Your Own) philosophy and SSI and Medicaid will be cut and people who really need psych meds to survive won't be able to get them.
