Mental Health Support
Related: About this forumI'm coming forward
I've always had a degree of anxiety, but work and family recent put me over the edge. Thankfully, after what I thought was a heart attack, the people at Kaiser have really stepped up and provided a system of support through a combination of therapy and Lexapro (that's still in the process of kicking in).
Please, if you have any resources be it only friend and family, don't bottle yourself up or you'll end up like me.
AND THANK YOU, PRESIDENT OBAMA, FOR ADDING THE MENTAL HEALTH COVERAGE MANDATE TO THE ACA.

(21,646 posts)It took a long time to subside, as did the other bad side effects of levaquin the antibiotic, but after that I have such sympathy for what you and others suffering from long term anxietyare going through .
I was foolish before the reaction and thought people with anxiety “could control it “ if they tried to just calm down and relax
WRONG it’s not controllable that simple way by choice and it was clear that any stress accentuated it
I didn’t get medication for it because it was a side effect .
I didn’t want to add to all my other problems I was suffering from the reaction and it did eventually get out of my system , but it became clear to me that it’s not
something “ one can just snap out of “ with out help if it’s longterm for someone
It was brutal and one thing besides worry etc was I usually could just fall asleep and if anything had a hard time waking up . I never realized the pain of not being able to relax and just fall asleep when I deemed it and also waking up nervous when I wanted to continue sleeping what hell.
I realized how truly ignorant and biased I had been about mental health
I urge no one to hide it or feel it’s on them and avoid support
Ignore any ignorant people like I was and seek help from those knowledgeable
I’m glad you found a medication and therapy that is helping
It's like turning on a device and breaking the switch.

(21,646 posts)and it went on a long time after the pills were stopped so I’ve blocked out a lot of memory about it but yes it is exactly how you describe it - very good analogy indeed
Plus i want to add I also sympathize with all the physical effects related that I forgot also go along with anxiety not just the mental torture - muscle tension, headaches , skin etc.
now that I am thinking back and recalling after your OP and of course the heart feelings you mentioned
I know you have a lot going on but if you wonder what I’m even talking about it was like this >

(62,667 posts)and help you feel better. It may take longer to determine what time of day you prefer to take it if it causes you to have a sleepy spell later in the day. I hope it also gives you z burst of energy and alleviates neck and/or shoulder pain if you have that also.
Good luck!

(2,109 posts)I started Lexapro two weeks ago. I am 50 years old and have been a nervous wreck my entire life, but too proud to admit it. Sometimes I think about how life could have been different. I am still contemplating counseling.
Good luck my friend!

(21,312 posts)I am so glad you are getting the help you need.
A relative's 10 year old daughter is dealing with severe anxiety. The pediatrician told her mother that they are seeing more children with this problem.
I believe this is a symptom of a society that is no longer working for the majority of the people in it, but just a few.
