What's for Dinner, Tues., Feb. 24, 2026

Shrimp burger! Love these and they're so easy. I need easy right now because life is so complex due to this storm. I will use the last of my artisan rolls as the bread, then mayo and sliced tomato.
Will make my own ginger-sesame scallion sauce. Adding a little sriracha this time.

Breaded Brussels sprouts. Sounds weird but it's pretty good. A little melted butter to dip them in. They come breaded so I don't have to do it. I don't usually buy frozen vegetables, but this one had me curious, so I did.

Kombucha, unflavored.

Dessert: Caramel apple.

Note to all my friends on the breakfast thread: thanks for your concerns! It was nice to read that you were thinking about me. The place is shoveled out but I'm not driving anywhere. It's supposed to get up to 50 this Saturday, but we have yet another snowfall of a couple inches tomorrow.

Salad with ranch dressing later.

Great to know you are shoveled out. 5o degrees on Saturday should get rid of a lot of that snow.

Good Evening

maybe some bread. definitely some butter. steamed artichokes and? maybe some leftover salad? there is also plenty of smoked pork shoulder, but that is a lot of fat. I don't know. have to get these artichokes cooked!

The Archeologist* spent several hours making molé sauce from scratch. Her recipe called for four different dried peppers, chocolate, raisins, banana, oregano, chili powder, cumin and more. I’ll grill the boneless chicken breasts; they’ve been marinating in olive oil and garlic. The molé sauce will be poured over the cooked chicken.

Two sides: Yellow rice with cardamom and a large salad of red leaf lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, cucumber and green pepper slivers topped with carrot shavings and a sprinkle of pine nuts. Dressed with olive oil and Balsamic vinegar.

Dulce de leche ice cream for dessert instead of watching that idiot’s speech.

*Following NJCher’s lead in nicknaming her Real Gourmet, my wife gets a different appellation depending on where we are. At home in NYC, she’s the Landlady because we live in her apartment. When we’re sailing, she’s the First Mate. While we’re in Panama this winter, she’s volunteering at an archaeological site called El Caño about three hours southwest of Panama City. Late last week, they excavated a tomb dating back over 1,000 years with the remains of several people along with gold jewelry and lots of intact pottery! Although her career was as a performer, she got her Masters in Archaeology and this dig is fulfilling one of her life long dreams. Hence the Archeologist.

I don't have cable tv and it's hard to find a big picture of the snowstorms. I meant to look at the aftermath today, and had an unexpected errand. So I haven't had a chance to look for news.

Stay warm!

Got home so late. Opened and heated a quart jar of French Onion soup, browned some cheese on top of some bread and made salads. Poured the soup over the bread and had supper in time for the SOTU.

Plus - Fast, easy and good. Minus - SOTU is enough to ruin anybody's appetite/

We ate it anyway.
