So few paint companies, seems like they're all one parent company now.
In 2011 I used top of the line Olympic on one side of the house. It was a semi-transparent, the consistency was about like whole milk, it colored well, quickly left a pale translucent amber almost parafin on the surface and dried clear, just the color of the stain. In all these years it never yellowed, molded, cracked, or anything else. It can be washed and looks as good as new or year-old stain.
Since then the company changed the mixture. Olympic Max was thin, and went moldy in a year. Over the years I've used Sherwin Williams, that had mildew and mold within 2 years as I recall. I don't want an oil base or oil mixture, the mold grows on it. Behr has an oil mixture. Benjamin Moore is oil mixture. Glidden makes an all acrylic, but I can hardly find it, only saw it at Walmart. And is it any good, it's a good $12 cheaper per gallon.
Any ideas what to use?

(47,932 posts)haven't used a S-W product in years, the product line changes every few years. Seems like many of them are for decks, or have oil mixed with other products.

(47,932 posts)just like the stuff I used about 20 years ago. Easy to apply, water cleanup. I expect 5-6 year durability from it, which is not bad for the money.
