One of the cabinets in my kitchen literally fell off the wall today.

I almost had a heart attack lol. Lived here for 4 years with no problems. It's my house, so no landlord to call.

Does insurance cover any of this. Should I call a handyman? Do it myself?

Never had a cabinet fall off a wall in my life.

5. We had a water heater leak and damage one of our bedrooms.

The insurance covered all of the damage: replacing the flooring, repairing the wet wall, repainting, etc. No hassle at all.

Yes, house passed inspection. It was recently completely redone. So everything was new.

No problems with ANYTHING until this morning lol. I hadn't even had my second cup of coffee!

15. Check to see if they used drywall screws to hold up the cabinets.

It’s a pet peeve of mine. The drywall screw are brittle and/or can pull through the plywood/mdf at the back of the cabinets

#10 or #12 cabinet screws should be used. The ones with the big heads.

I'm a very small woman, so after I get the ladder in, I can hopefully figure it out.

Do you think if I use deck screws to get it back up, would that work?

18. You want larger heads. Deck screws aren't much larger than drywall screws

But deck screws will work in a pinch. I would replace them all one at time

16. Do contact your insurance company about it

They may be able to contact whoever did the ‘re-doing’ work and investigate if someone should be held responsible.
Builders are licensed and bonded for their work .

12. No, that's the odd thing! This cabinet does hold glassware (of course). The noise was unreal.

No cans, no plates, nothing heavy.

The side cabinet connected to it holds vinegar and olive oil.

Extra screws sounds like an idea. I've got a friend over now, as equally incompetent at me, but we will figure out something!
