Gardening
Related: About this forumThere oughta be an app
where you can type in your address, use your home's location , situation (direction) to guide you to what to plant in your garden.
There are pieces of these, but there should be an app to make planning a garden easier

(4,840 posts)Generally known as 'the county extension office'. Ours is a gem in the form of an energetic woman/teacher who conducts master gardener classes and many workshops on different topics of interest to local gardeners. The extension office also offers a couple of plant sales each year, offering plants suitable for this location. Money raised helps fund workshops and events.
If there is a real 'app' for gardening in your location, it's a safe bet your local extension office can put you on to it and help you out.

(15,146 posts)CA has a Master Gardener program run out of U.C. Davis.
I sent them some photos of plants that were new to me and they identified them right away. And they'll train you to be a master gardener yourself.
Must be something of the sort near you.
Be careful what you wish for -- I found a couple of apps on the Apple store that will set you back some $40 immediately or over time.
Good luck with your extension service. You paid for it already.

(4,441 posts)I know my zone...I know of the farmers almanac, which way my house faces, etc, and yet, I still struggle to know what grows best, considering my proximity to the water, etc...
Considering topography maps, elevation, all of it, there should be an app that makes this all easier.
