The latest on Willow (not happy news, sorry)

Last edited Tue Mar 17, 2026, 04:05 PM - Edit history (1)

Since I last posted about Willow back in January, her condition has continued to decline. Some days are better than others, but none of them are great at this point. Mr. B and I have reluctantly decided to stop putting off the inevitable. We've scheduled a vet appointment for noon on Thursday.

I know it's going to be hard, and the reality hasn't fully hit me yet, but we're at peace with this decision. As much as we hate the thought of losing her, I feel like we've been gradually losing her little by little for months now. In a weird sort of way, it's a relief to know it'll be over soon, for her and for us.

Thank you all for your support. It is deeply appreciated!

P.S.Sorry about the duplicate post! I will leave it up since it got a couple of replies before I saw it.

Hubby and I prolonged our snootchie's life for months with water therapy and laser therapy. We finally had to decide whether we were prolonging her pain because it was too difficult to let go. That was almost ten years ago and I still miss her.

My heart goes out to you in this very painful time.
Hubby made this vid of Snootchie Bootchies and Randall when Randall was a just a puppy in 2006. We lost Randall last year. He is now jumping in piles of leaves with his sis.

When that is no longer possible then removing suffering is the final gift of love we can give them.

That won't alleviate the sadness, but please be at peace.

... but we just have love them while we've got them.
We now have a 2-year-old Great Pyrenees/Redbone-mix rescue from Texas named Honey. She's our big orange, floppy-eared house horse.
Our hearts are with you, ShazzieB.

I do Pyrenees rescue in Texas, Saving Pyrenees in Need (SPIN). Is he one of ours?

... but I'll have to dig out her papers to recall where she came from. She looks more like a Redbone than a Pyrenees, though that's what her DNA test told was dominant.
It's late, so I'll look that up tomorrow and let you know. Thanks for your interest, and thanks especially for working to save other fur babies!

LetMyPeopleVote's post re: chocolate before you take Willow to the vet.
Why does doing the "right thing" hurt so bad? I don't know, but I do know so many DUers will want to take you and Mr. B in their arms and they will cry with and for you both on Thurs.

When I get so bad someone has to wipe my butt, wish someone could take me to the vet.
My ex was euthanasia tech and was there for many dogs and cats getting that finale shot. Very peaceful for an animal in pain. First shot relaxed them. Then the second one, there a peaceful sigh as they fall asleep.

This is an extremely difficult decision and is never easy. May your remaining time together be filled with the simple joy of sharing each others company.

It's the worst thing about them - our time with them is always too short and always ends. However, it's always worth it - at least she had good times with you.
