Related: About this forumI just figured out that my cat is now deaf
My cats name is Aggie and shes just over 22 years old. Recently, her behavior has been a little different. Like not getting out of the way when I was moving heavy stuff. She didnt seem to react when I yelled at her to move. The final tell that she was completely deaf happened today when was cleaning the house - absolutely no reaction when I turned on the vacuum cleaner. I can only think this new world of silence must be very strange for her but she seems to be taking it in stride. She still meows for food every morning as usual and acts pretty normal given her lack of hearing.

(1,061 posts)I've noticed she piles on my bed when I turn on the hall light to go up stairs. I think she's already figured out to use other cues to adapt. Amazing animals.

(25,695 posts)Siamese became deaf in her last few years. She had always been easily startled and somewhat anxious because of that. After she lost her hearing, she was much calmer and seemed to be a happier cat. I was glad for her.

(870 posts)Felix watches Oscar and takes his cue from him. Felix also has learned a few hand signals. Oscar is losing sight due to cataracts. He walks close to the walls inside and patrols the fence outside. They are 15 and littermates.
A couple of snuggle bugs now.
