Related: About this forumThe kidcats and I are a little more comfortable, today, thanks to those flea traps
Some of the best money I've ever spent. The trap is made of a very sturdy plastic with a light bulb and 'sticky discs' and came with extras of both.
I can't say I was shocked by what I found, this morning, but then I've been doing a lot of eradicating on my own.
Outside is better, too. I just fed the ferals and found just a couple fleas on my jeans, which were easily removed. I'm heading out to buy a 10lb bag of baking soda, 2 lbs of salt and another bag (or two) of lawn treatment. We are in the pathway of tropical storm Beryl so a lot of the outdoor work will wait until Thursday, when the lawn conditions will be ideal for treatment.
Today and tomorrow I'll be doing more indoor deep cleaning, roll up all of the rugs and blow diatomaceous earth beneath the furniture and along all of the baseboards. The furniture will get treated, again, too.
The good news is my kidcats have finally forgiven me for applying that topical on them. They were SERIOUSLY offended. Well, except for Gryff. He took advantage of me being shunned by the others to get extra attention.
My brother is heading home, today, from northern California so I will be getting more help. Of course I'm in major worry/anxiety mode about his trip because the weather is scorching hot for the first part of his journey. His kidcats, Dude and Banksy, are going to be SO HAPPY to see their dad, again.

(5,750 posts)A little water and dish soap in the dish, and the fleas are attracted to the light, jump toward it, land in the soapy water and they can't get out. It's good to have those because you can tell when the fleas are gone and you stop trapping new ones. We had to use those because any kind of pesticide could kill the Sun Conure Parrot if it got to him.

(27,354 posts)This first night gave me a good idea of the size of the problem and it's not QUITE as bad as I dreaded. Inside, at least. I'll be able to use the structure of these traps LONG after the sticky discs are used up because they are big and high enough to accommodate a shallow bowl.
I'm going to stock up on night light bulbs.

(1,047 posts)What flea trap did you buy?
And what is the baking soda and salt for?
Good luck on your fight with the fleas.

(27,354 posts)Home Depots sells another brand but they don't keep them in stock so ordering overnight from Amazon got it here faster.
Baking soda and salt dries out fleas and their eggs, much like diatomaceous earth works. The baking soda/salt is better for outdoor use because diatomaceous earth is SO light, the slightest outdoor breeze blows it away. I found that out so I use that indoors.
Adding the salt can be an problem when using it outdoors but the area I plan to 'dust' is a garden I want to mostly clear, anyway. It's right next to the house and I want to fence off that particular section and turn it in to a Zen area for me.

(1,047 posts)I seen different sticky traps. They also work for other pests (flies, moths, etc..)
And I had heard about diatomaceous earth
For various Pests, but I hadnt heard about the baking soda and salt. Very interesting.
