Interesting read. Basically, it boils down to culture war.

(1,941 posts)Day in and day out, here you are promoting your cause, tirelessly, ran or shine. I can respect that. I just ask that you consider the opposing view point for a moment. I admit, I've posted some harsh criticism of gun control advocates and I apologize for that. I'm willing to have an honest dialogue about guns. I admit I don't have it all figured out. But the stuff that gets posted about gun owners around here is over the top and comical. You can't have a meaningful discussion if folks just want to ban users, hide posts, or mock.
Look at the state of these gun focused discussion forums for a moment. The broader DU community has basically sent us to our respective rooms so we won't interrupt the others. GCRA has very little activity, and this forum doesn't have much more. Perhaps we as a group are doing something wrong. We aren't going to go out to GD and win hearts and minds if GC&RKBA and GCRA can't even talk to each other without name calling, memes, and hysterics.

(6,185 posts)The thing that I marvel at is how they actually seem angry that violent crime is at a 40 year low and try to find ways to deny that as a fact.
Totally F's up their narrative, not to mention their fund raising.
Or how many of them (see pretty much any GD Gun related post from the past few weeks) seem perfectly willing to drive out the 30% of Dems that are "ammosexual gun humpers" for their flavor of "purity"? That'll win us a lot of elections
Really seems they'd rather have the issue to whine and feel morally superior about, than actually do anything to address the problems.
Oh well, what they want or think doesn't really matter, as long as legislatures and courts keep voting and ruling the way we like.

(1,941 posts)with "enjoy your stay" means you think I deserve to be banned from DU or that I'm a sock puppet or a Republican who spends his time trolling DU. That's just not true. I would venture a guess that nearly a third of Democrats just aren't supportive of gun control in a general sense let alone in absolute terms.

(5,046 posts)As I have said, and there behavior shows that they wish to dictate terms, not converse
So, we should treat them as such, their minds are already made up, and they are closed for any other viewpoint. Let's treat them the way they try to treat us, with utter contempt, with the exception of continually pointing out just how weak their arguments are, and how poorly briefed they are on the subject at hand. So let the conversation leave them behind, in the rear view mirror, with only Bloomberg's 1%er money keeping them "sort of" relevant as his sock puppets.
Enough guns were sold on Black Friday to more than outfit a World War Two era Army in the field. And they continue to talk about "tipping points"..
But they never say which way it is tipping..

20. So would random home inspections be allowed, or is everything you propose just hot air?
You can train people and encourage or require the purchase of safes and trigger locks, but unless you have ways to follow up, such as by requiring renewal of a firearm possession license, along with home inspection and safety reviews, it really wouldn't change much, would it?

I don't understand how what amounts to a dangerous hobby can be constitutionally protected in this day and age. You don't need a gun in this society, and those who possess firearms are far more dangerous to themselves and everyone around them, law abiding or not.

(21,342 posts)to ignoring other Amendments.
Along with the proposals to ignore/remove the Second I see people proposing to do away with, in whole or part, The 1st (speech), 3rd (anachronistic), 4th (search, seizure and Warrants) and 5th (due process, deprived of life, property). The Sixth, Ninth and Tenth are a bit shady as well, depending on the specifics of some proposals.

(6,185 posts)Ignoring any existing law is OK ... as long as it let's them tell gun owners what they can and can't do.
Warrant free search and seizure, 5th amendment, Habeas corpus, free speech, speeding in a school zone, tearing those tags off mattresses and/or pillows; anything it takes to get one gun away from one ammosexual gun humper, because ... if it saves just one life...
As long as they don't have to actually do anything themselves, like reach for their checkbooks or take some vacation time to meet with legislators.
Other than that anything they can do from a keyboard and they might be in, if nothing good is on TV.
