A Long Beach woman and her son are facing federal charges alleging they illegally shipped hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of firearms parts and ammunition to the Philippines.
Marlou Mendoza, 60, was arrested Jan. 20 at Los Angeles International Airport as she returned from a trip to the Philippines, officials from the U.S. Attorneys Office said Tuesday. Her son, Mark Louie Mendoza, 30, is a citizen of the Philippines, where authorities believe he remains at large.
The mother and son are named in separate indictments that were returned by a federal grand jury Dec. 10.
Prosecutors say that Marlou Mendoza failed to provide required written notice that she was shipping ammunition tens of thousands of rounds of .22-caliber ammunition on three dates in 2011.
