proper secured storage goes a long way to solving that problem.

Criminals doing criminal things is a separate problem with separate solutions.

Negligence and "accidents" is a third problem with separate solutions.

Unfortunately for the doctors, none of these problems lend themselves to a medical solution.

Otherwise, context is everything and is missing.

Gunz = bad, case closed (for them). To their minds, if you even WANT a gun you are a deranged fascist.

And not only would secured storage be greatly helpful in preventing suicide, but some statistics show that stolen guns are a major source of the guns actually used in crimes.

9. Information I get from the video

About 45 seconds into the video the number of domestic firearm deaths and injuries is given as approximately 65,000. As I reported in post #8 [ https://www.democraticunderground.com/1172209221#post8 ] the CDC's database reports a total of 121,249 injuries and deaths In 2015.

Fatal firearm injuries for 2017 are 39,773. For 2016 that number is 38,658.

*Since this number is rising I suspect the number of injuries is also rising and I believe the number of 65,000 presented in the video is wrong and too low.

"...the American College of Physicians provide some recommendations..." The NRA responded by saying 'stay in your lane'. A lot of the doctors were "incensed".

*Summary: The NRA was rude and disrespectful and lots of doctors were justifiably upset. Being treated with rudeness and disrespect is wrong but that doesn't validate the ACPs recommendations.

One doctor explains that doctors also have responsibilities in the area of preventing deaths and injuries. I have no argument there but this video presents none of the recommendations made which prompted the NRA to act rudely and respond dismissively about those recommendations.

Overall the video is about an argument over an exchange between 2 organizations on the topic of firearm safety and injuries. None of the actual causes of violence are addressed. No recommendations to abate those issues or mitigate their effects on society are even mentioned. There is no link to find them.

Like most of what is being covered, posted or discussed in the media, this 10 minute video does prompt people to take sides but does nothing to spur discussion on productive legislation or executive response at any level of government.
