The notion we'll be having a new civil war real soon has been around for at least 150 years and then some.
And another thought: There are two schools of thought on that. The one includes those wanting also to secede as the Southern states did before. I think that many have been raised by parents filled with hate and looking for those they can blame for any misfortunes. Many of that ilk imagine their lives are being impaired by Yankees, the feds and 'people from away'.
The other school consists of all the sane normal folks. There used to be a third group that believed the Civil War never really ended but I think they may be gone now.

for about 50 years.
I do recall that Charles Manson was utterly convinced his actions would start a new race war.
