Fort Liberty soldier charged with trafficking firearms, accused of lying about ties to white supremacy group

A 20-year-old Fort Liberty soldier has been charged with unlawful firearms trafficking and making false statements to the government.

Kai Liam Nix, also known as Kai Brazelton, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, was indicted on Aug. 14 by a federal grand jury.

According to the indictment, Nix is accused of lying about his involvement in extremist groups on a security clearance application.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claims that Nix was a member of the nationalist hate group Patriot Front.

"...Kai Liam Nix, we found operating a channel called Appalachian Archives, which was later rebranded to American Archives, and it was Telegram channel that was rife with neo-Nazi content," Tischauser said.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which investigates hate groups, became especially interested in those channels after they began to play a role in Hanson's unsuccessful bid for mayor in the county seat for affluent Williamson County, Tennessee.

"Essentially, Kai was working behind the scenes doxxing people, providing sensitive material about journalists, about activists that were engaged in trying to stop Hanson’s campaign," Tischauser said.

Among its posts, Appalachian Archives shared a photo of the home and address of a Franklin attorney who had criticized the hate groups, as well as info about the operator of the progressive Tennessee Holler news site and photos from a neo-Nazi protest outside the home of a journalist from a national website who had covered the Hanson campaign."...(more)

A member of the white nationalist hate group Patriot Front who appears to operate a social media account that disclosed personal information about perceived political enemies – including journalists, left-leaning activists, politicians and community members – is an active-duty soldier in the U.S. Army, a Hatewatch investigation has revealed.

Kai Liam Nix, 20, of West End, North Carolina, also known as Patrick NC inside Patriot Front, is stationed at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, with the 82nd Airborne Division. His enlistment and active-duty status were confirmed by an Army public affairs officer.

As an enlisted soldier, Nix has access to weapons and tactical training that make his involvement with Patriot Front – a group that targets communities with racist propaganda and hate rallies – particularly concerning.
