(57,454 posts)2. Yup, since at least Pearl Harbor, it has been obvious battleships are vulnerable, obsolete, money pits.
What they were good at, pummeling onshore targets from a few miles off shore, can be done much more effectively, cheaply and safely (for our troops) from the air with missiles, drones and airplanes.
Spending $20B on a sitting duck is not in the best interests of our country.
