(26,849 posts)until it's a crisis.
I've been working with my brother and his wife to get them moved to assisted living, and they are totally in crisis mode. I am so frustrated, because they absolutely have the financial resources for this.
And independent living isn't remotely an old folk's home. I suspect that your real problem is that you've lived in your current home for 30 or more years, not used to relocating, and so just aren't that adaptable or flexible. Honestly, once you get into your new place you will love it. I hear that over and over again from people who were completely opposed to the move, and then discovered that their lives opened up tremendously.
Oh, and do let us know how it goes. Give us periodic reports, please.

(4,454 posts)the last of the Lasagna I made the other day. Best pan of lasagna I'd made in a long time! I've been cleaning since then. A little bit here, a little bit there, trying to get it done before my body gives out on it completely tonight.
I've got a little pass-thru room I want to get to tonight that's become a junk room. I want to clean it out so I can set it up as a candle making room. Since I retired a couple of years ago, I've just been drifting. I need to dig in and find something I can do to feel productive and satisfied again. Making a bit of money to augment SS would be a nice plus, too! I used to love making candles. I'm hoping I can get back in where I left off without too much regaining of the learning curve. There are so many cute molds out there now, as opposed to what there was when last I was doing it.
The molds are also good for making soaps. Thought I might give that a try, too. Had thought about picking up a part-time, remote job but my resume typecasts me as a network engineer and I really want something much more lowkey and less stressful. All I'm getting is fulltime with lots of travel attached. Mostly network engineering and/or network security. Good money; lots of stress. I'm too old for that and my fibromyalgia just doesn't respond well to those situations. I'd much rather sit and type or maintain a CMS or LMS.
So, I'm cleaning and dreaming right now, I guess. Ideas are welcome... how did ya'll make the transition from hard charging Type A work life to retirement? I'm dying of boredom right now! Thank goodness I love to read! (LOL)

(5,211 posts)It was in another state, nearby but still exciting since I haven't gone that far since Covid began nationally.
My daughter drove me, and I brought my friend a great fruit and nut mix as well as a chrysanthemum plant, and some hand-made soap for the other ladies present. There were also two pleasant men, spouses of the ladies.
I had gotten my hair cut and colored after a long hiatus, so felt presentable enough.
So nice to have conversation and catch up with a long-time friend.
Time gets by each day and it's easy to lose touch.
What's happening with you, trof?

(54,273 posts)Watching a lot of movies. I like to open the IMDB website for the movie I'm watching and read the trivia and goofs and check the bios of the actors.
