For Texas Readers

My mum called me yesterday with news about how Texas residents (she's one) with a state-issued ID can get full access to Houston Public library's eBook collection, no matter where one lives in the state, and without age restrictions. Link here:

Mum's in her 80s and not very Internet savvy, so she needed me to set up an account for her and walk her through the basics of finding and checking out books. She's chuffed to bits to have access to a much wider range of books than her local small town library can offer.

It means delighted. My family are recent immigrants from the UK, so much of the slang rubbed off on me.

If you're interested in access to another locale's library, you might try the Anaheim (CA) library. They offer a free card for online access to anyone, worldwide:

Warning: The demand has been overwhelming, so expect to wait up to six weeks for approval.

I am not in Houston proper, but in north Harris County, with at least 27 member libraries in and around Houston.
