(348 posts)1. Is this normal for a poety contest to charge to submit a poem?
I'm not complaining. Just asking.

(3,709 posts)2. Some of them do, some of them don't. I, personally, never entered one of those contests. Anyway---
If I'm not mistaken, many contest judges (respected "names" apparently) have to be paid for their time and trouble before accepting the job of reading all the entries, etc. But, then again, some of those fees might be necessary to pay the winners. Who knows, for sure?

(348 posts)3. Okay, thanks.
I've never entered one either.
Are there poetry contests on Democratic Underground?
I saw the photo group has a photography contest.

(3,709 posts)4. I haven't seen one. In fact, the "Poetry Group" doesn't appear to attract much attention.
My guess is that, with or without contests, people are more attracted to the "Writing Group"---who knows?
