Dodgers' deferred payments top $1 billion to 7 players

NEW YORK -- Contracts for Blake Snell and Tommy Edman increased the Los Angeles Dodgers' obligations for deferred payments to more than $1 billion owed to seven players from 2028 to 2046.

Snell's $182 million contract, announced Saturday, includes $66 million in deferred money payable to the pitcher through July 1, 2046, according to contract terms obtained by The Associated Press.

Edman's $74 million, five-year deal, announced Friday, includes $25 million payable to the infielder and outfielder through July 1, 2044.

Los Angeles now owes deferred payments of $1,006,500,000 to seven players.

Professional sports in general are so wildly warped from reality that a crash and correction is the only eventuality that makes sense.

$1B payrolls, financed and leveraged to suck more "profits" in the present day with no long-term plan to figure out what happens when the music stops and there are no where NEAR enough chairs?

If the collapse of society (currently South Korea, Georgia, Ukraine and Gaza are either in flames or threatening to expand into a truly global conflict) continues to accelerate, the shooting death this morning of UHC's CEO may take on added significance when the excrement slams into the rotary air displacement device.

4. Honestly, I'm just about done with baseball.

10 years ago I got to watch my Giants somehow and inexplicably win their 3rd title in 5 years.

I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime and highly doubt I'll ever see it again.

Manfred has been an absolute disaster for the sport and under his watch we now have two homeless teams with the A's and Rays.

Baseball is dying, folks. Anyone who disagrees is likely a Dodgers or Yankees fan.

Playing a shell game with money is NOT "justice" for banging a garbage can.

It's a compound fracture of the system.

It was incredible to see the Giants' run of three World Series wins, every game, IIRC, the underdog.

You'll never see that again.

Whether it's Farhan's "money ball" in signing players from the DL, or the Dodgers' "How Much Money do you want?" ball, it has lost all charm. And with the latest reminder of Greg "MAGA" Johnson's use of the fans' money to subjugate them to Christ-Fascist overlords .... OUCH.

And you know that the day before Shohei collects that monster 20-year deferred paycheck, he'll leave the state and pay no taxes on it.
