Closest I could guess is red-breasted sapsucker, mainly because we have lots of woodpeckers here, and that's a pointed beak. Sierra Nevada foothills.

5. I was in Palm Springs last month and my only positive ID were Ravens and Roadrunner

All new birds there to me. Roadrunner was very people tolerant if I stood still.
