Detroit now leads the NFL with a +159 point differential. Far and away the class of the league so far.
Dan Campbell has to be the favorite for coach of the year.

(20,892 posts)There was a time when he was with the Rams that he was considered a bust. He has come a long way.
Even did a pump fake on his second(!) run of the day! Holy Mahonnes!

(109 posts)Usually goes to the coach of the most surprising team in the NFL in a season. Commanders coach Dan Quinn would be the front runner. You could make a case that Dan Campbell has been a better coach this year, sure; you could also make the case that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has done wonders making a team with a depleted offensive line get to 9-2. But even though the award says "Coach of the Year" it usually is given to the most surprising team.
There are still seven weeks left in the season, and that's a very long time. But right now, I don't think anyone can deny Detroit their Super Bowl. Their fans deserve it, and their team looks better than anyone else for some time now. Given that my Bears aren't going to the postseason (despite looking better today than they have for the last month), I'm rooting for the Lions.

(20,892 posts)that these past several coaches of the year don't prove your point consistently:
2023: Kevin Stefanski, Browns
2022: Brian Daboll, Giants
2021: Mike Vrabel, Titans
2020: Kevin Stefanksi, Browns
2019: John Harbaugh, Ravens
2018: Matt Nagy, Bears
2017: Sean McVay, Rams
2016: Jason Garrett, Cowboys

(70,636 posts)...I think I heard that Smith, who they got at the trade deadline from Cleveland, has got another year on his contract.
So, next year they're going to have both of them!

(20,892 posts)and how about this stat for head coach Dan Campbell:
Dan Campbell started 4-19-1 in his first season and a half as the Lions HC.
Detroit is now 33-9 since Week 9 of 2022.
