Related: About this forumSo, Bears fans, how do you feel about Mike McCarthy?
This is not a done deal, but where there's smoke, there may be fire!
Multiple sources said the Bears have sought permission to speak with McCarthy regarding their head coaching vacancy. A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Cowboys have yet to respond to the request.
McCarthy's contract expires Wednesday, but the Cowboys hold exclusive negotiating rights through Jan. 14. After that McCarthy would become a coaching free agent.

(71,015 posts)Dallas denied permission to talk to him, so they'll have interviewed 6 or 7 guys before the free period even starts.

(21,277 posts)things have taken a turn. No McCarthy worries after all. And that's probably a good thing!

(71,015 posts)He's a consistent winner, hires smart assistants, has developed QBs, and if he can put up with Jones, the Chicago media would be a cakewalk.
I just don't see it happening.
They're interviewing Carroll today.
Because of the bye, they can get to Johnson this week, too. Not sure that's confirmed, though.

(71,015 posts)Dallas just launched McCarthy.
Earlier on this thread I said Bears wouldn't get him. But, that was because Dallas' denial of permission fir the Bears to talk with him meant he wasn't leaving Dallas.
So, the reason for my conclusion just blew up on me.
Doesn't their refusal to allow him to speak with another team, just to fire him 6 days later, come off as a duck move on the part of Dallas?
