I'm interested in going on a trip to Spain that includes Segovia. The map reveals that it is north of Madrid but it doesn't look too far from it. Are day trips out of Madrid to Segovia something that can be done?

(146,218 posts)It is only about an hour out of Madrid and there will be lots of buses available, as it is a very popular tourist destination.
You can also take a train, then a taxi or another bus into the city center.
There is a full days worth of things to see there. You don't really need a guide, but if you are the kind of person who likes that, there would be a lot available
I had a book of self-guided walking tours at the time and one was Segovia. If you can find something like that, that is what I would recommend.
Sorry to hear that you have stopped your Friday Challenge. I was terrible at it, but loved looking at it every week. Thanks for your work and dedication to that series. It was always fun.

(65,302 posts)the NYT has the front page of its weekend Travel Section devoted to it...I actuially love the idea of taking trains to smaller places outside of big cities. I did that in Brussels on an art trip in 2012 and it worked very well.
And thanks for your kind words about the Challenge. I didn't make a general announcement, but sometimes things happen that make it clear it's time to stop. Did you see it in my ATA question to Skinner?

I'm at the beginning of a big change in course and loving it. We are currently on the road driving across Mexico. It's a wonderful adventure.
Enjoy Spain. Although I visited many years ago, it remains one of my favorite places I've been to so far.

(65,302 posts)I always say Spain changed my life, which in a way it did. The art I saw there entranced me, but I did not visit the other, smaller cities and I want to go back and do that. Hence my interest in doing a day trip out of Madrid, when I am on a trip that will basically go south afterwards to the SEville, Granada, Cordoba towns/ cities...must see/expereince the southern as well as the northern parts...I loved Bilbao but gotta go south, too!

(3 posts)Hi CTyankee,
I've done it with friends and by my self to check out the Segovia Cathedral.
It doesn't take no more then an hour and a half. more or less if u don't lose your self like i did.
first time i rented car and went up their, the trip is basically strait, when i arrived at Segovia i lost my self in tiny roads. i left the car and went by foot. Easier the time when i went with my friends to show them the place, my friend called a limo company and we booked a minivan, much better and faster, the driver new his self around, its cheaper than renting a car by ur self.
Anyway if you don't want hassle here is the website airportconnectionservices.com check out the prices, you may find what you need there.
Cheers
