Survey: 82% of White Evangelicals Would Vote for Trump if Elections Were Today
By Hemant Mehta, July 1, 2020
As recently as a week ago, there were headlines about how Joe Biden might be peeling away support from the one voting bloc Donald Trump cant afford to lose: white evangelicals. The pathetic photo op in front of a church that was preceded by the tear-gassing of protesters was seen as a kind of tipping point for when evangelicals would move away from him.
Roughly 81% of them voted for Trump in 2016, and with a number that high, it can really only go down. And given Trumps thin margins of victory in a handful of swing states, a small drop-off could be disastrous for his re-election efforts (which would be fantastic news for everyone else).
This time around, those white evangelicals will have to weigh their support for Trumps unrelenting stream of anti-abortion judicial nominees and constant lip service to their faith with well, *gesturing wildly in all directions*. Would the pandemic, or the story about Trump ignoring the Russian bounty on American troops, or a faltering economy do anything to push those conservative Christians in Bidens direction?
Now we know.
Theyre not budging.

These "Xians" long ago removed Christ from the equation, but now they no longer need fear atheists, agnostics, or those of other religions diminishing the importance of faith in this country. They are doing it all themselves.

(15,206 posts)He can't win if he doesn't get the majority of the Christians' votes again this time. Splitting them 50-50 won't do it. He needs the majority of Christians to vote for him or he loses.

(35,068 posts)and he gets 82% of them. BFD, That's roughly 15% of the vote. Everything he does to keep them pushes away more and more of the other 85% of the voters.
NeoGreen
(4,033 posts)....since they support drumpf by a majority also.
Not a BFD!?
I'll say it again: A Sycophant is as Sycophant does, whether in politics or in other.

(35,068 posts)White men seems to be the only group he has kept a clear majority of.
37% of white Catholics BTW.

(4,033 posts)...he's carrying approval from more than 'white men', he is carrying >50% approval with certain religious classes too, i.e. subsets, but large portions, of those who identify at catholic, protestant and evangelical.
edhopper
(35,068 posts)does not show any approval over 50% for any groups but White Evangelicals. Which Pew also says is only 17% of the population.
The survey I posted says his approval is even lower with the other groups.
But my point is, the more he chases the White Evangelical vote, the more he loses other voters.
NeoGreen
(4,033 posts)..net approval.
Plus, I would trust data presented from Pew more than any data presented by 'thecatholictelegraph', any day of the week, especially sunday.

According to the poll of 1,512 Catholic registered voters conducted from Jan. 28 through Feb. 4, 58% of white non-Hispanic Catholics approved of Trump strongly or somewhat, and 53% said they were either sure to vote for him in November or there was a strong chance they would.

(35,068 posts)now:
The Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) reported on Thursday that President Trumps favorability among white Catholics fell from 60% in March to 48% in April to just 37% in May.

Plus there is this:

(15,206 posts)They believe he is God's own hand-picked man for the office of President, whom God raised up and put in place to implement his will. Opposition to Trump, therefore, is the same as opposition to God. Nothing he does or doesn't do, is ever going to convince them otherwise.
The Bible is stuffed with stories about awful men who, according to the stories, God put into positions of great power over others, and showered with his favor and his blessings. These men perpetrated evil that Trump hasn't dreamed of doing, sometimes on God's direct orders, and God rewarded them for it. Considering this, there really isn't any way to convince Christians that God would never favor someone like Trump. The Bible very clearly tells them that the opposite is true.

(6,718 posts)Romans 13:1:
"Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Which would have included Barack Obama, of course.
Odd how they kinda ignored that verse from 2008 to 2016.
They also play the abortion card, ignoring the fact that the Republican-controlled Congress could have passed legislation related to abortion and Roe v. Wade in the two years 2017-2018, and Mango Mussolini would have signed it. They talk endlessly about abortion, and do nothing about it. Hypocrites.
