Do animals have guides?
I guess I'm asking because our kitty (13yo) went walkabout after bolting out between our shepherds legs Saturday. He's not an outdoor cat, and he's never been gone this long before. We're really worried because there are raccoons and fox in our woods. I haven't put his stuff away yet, in hopes he comes back.
Any good guiding thoughts sent Maxie cat's way would be much appreciated. Even the darned dog misses him. I'm still trying, and telling the kids to think positive, but it seems like Saturday morning has been so long ago.

(19,288 posts)It will be a huge relief as it was for me when Toonsis returned in 3 days when I lost her. It was at night and I heard her crying in the yard behind us. I called, she came, and I cried because I was so happy. Look and listen.

(12,266 posts)they think they saw him wandering around between Monday and this morning. As soon as we get done work, hubby and I are going to scout the neighborhood again with a bag of smelly dehydrated salmon bits (his favorite treat). If my daughter feels up to it, we can cover the 3 main streets in our development at one time. It's supposed to snow a bit tonight so I hope we're successful.
Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers. I feel kinda lost without him around.

(2,649 posts)And wandered the neighborhood for 3 weeks before finally coming home. He was totally spooked, as far as we could tell, he was even terrified of them. They put his smelliest food out in the garage, and put up a motion sensitive camera so they could watch out for him. They left the garage door cracked about 18 inches and when they noticed him eating the food, they quickly closed the garage door so that he wouldn't run.

(23,156 posts)but about a year and a half ago my then 16 year old cat slipped out of my back yard and I was sick when I realized what had happened. I live in Santa Fe, and my small home backs up onto an arroyo, which means there's the potential for coyotes to be roaming in search of a cat as food.
A day and a half later -- in the wee hours of the morning to be precise -- I heard her meowing at the back door. I don't suppose she'd wandered very far, but she was totally uninterested in going outside at all for the next several months.
She's still with me, turning 18 some time this spring, and aside from the usual signs of getting older, such as sleeping twenty hours a day, she's doing fine.
