(4,522 posts)In my church sunday school group, a bunch of Republicans are kind of taking over the discussion. Last week, they said, oh we can't say "Merry Christmas" until January 20th. Then they told a story about a store where the salesclerk said "Happy Holidays" and they said "No, Merry Christmas" and then she seemed scared but she said "Merry Christmas." They said probably she had been ordered not to say "Merry Christmas." Then it was the end of sunday school time and time to go. Next time, should I bring it up and say that I think the salesclerk was probably scared of THEM? And probably she only said "Merry Christmas" because she was scared they would say something bad about her to management and get her fired? And maybe they could LIGHTEN UP? I grew up in a mainly Jewish neighborhood. Yes, I am a Christian, but also I believe God knows what He is doing in the Universe. Or anyway, He loves us all and wants us to get along with each other, and we are all fallible human beings.

(37,748 posts)Simply respond to the RW indignation with "Much like people, all holidays matter..." In light of the RW "All Lives Matter" nonsense, it's been my go-to reply this holiday season and has worked beautifully.
