Mathematicians often love to compare their Erdös numbers - the degree of separation you have from him based on co-authoring papers.

Co-authoring with Erdös is Erdös number one (maybe zero not sure). Coauthoring with someone who is Erdös number N means you have Erdös number N+1 where N is the minimum amongst all people you have coauthored with.
