"Field of Dreams" came to mind this morning, for no reason. And I'm thinking on it ---

So these guys come out of the corn field and they are dressed in team uniforms and they're ready to play ball. Then it occurs to me. Have they been playing ball for 40 50 60 years? Ain't they tired of it by now?

I like sex (I ain't got "with who" but that's another matter). I could envision myself in bed with a couple'a hot babes and enjoying that for years. Even decades. But if I really think on it, I would probably get tired of that too, if that was all I was doing. If that was my idea of heaven.

So I project myself into the idea of heaven. Doing ANYTHING for eternity....... what a horror.

So I'm glad that there ain't no heaven. Just empty "nothing."

Now I can argue that I am disappointed that Hell doesn't exist as a repository for certain souls or soulless slugs that I read about in the papers.

that you will blissfully enjoy your eternity of blissful joy. All agency is removed. Your consciousness is frozen. It is watching a movie with a projector stuck forever on one frame. It is indistinguishable from death itself.

Everyone is trying to get to the bar
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven
The band in Heaven, they play my favorite song
Play it one more time, play it all night long

Oh, Heaven
Heaven is the place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens

There is a party, everyone is there
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time
When this party's over, it will start again
Will not be any different, will be exactly the same

Oh, Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens

When this kiss is over, it will start again
Will not be any different, will be exactly the same
It's hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, could be this much fun

Oh, Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens

For instance, Abraham Lincoln, how many other millions of people would want to meet that hero, to? Wouldn’t that turn into a hell for that hero? Eternity is forever. How often can you enjoy the same favorite thing before you get sick of it? How long until you run out of new things to try?

To me, the concept of heaven is how the world remembers you. Did you leave a net positive effect on the world or negative? How many people’s lives did you make better? Will your community remember you favorably or poorly?

Then I figured, leave 'em alone.

It was many years ago that I figured out I don't want to be famous for anything or be anyone's hero. I can walk in the village and nobody bothers me or nuthin'.

But, Jerry, if you come to town and want a selfie with me ----
