I was about to run inside and tell everyone to come outside and watch this unbelievable flying saucer right overhead, but I decided to wait, and watch it a bit longer. Then I really "saw" it for the first time. It was a large military transport plane making a banked turn. The near wing was pointed right straight at me, and was effectively invisible (it was night). It was an astounding optical illusion, and I had briefly been quite certain that I was watching an other-worldly craft of some kind that was hovering motionless above me.

If I had run inside to call people when I first saw it, by the time I got back outside it would have been gone, and to this day I'd probably believe that I had seen a genuine flying saucer. I'm glad I stuck around to double check my observation before flying off half-cocked, otherwise I might have become a "true believer".

I must admit, however, for those brief few seconds it was a lot of fun to believe in it.
