5-plus feet of snow and counting: More snow is coming to the already buried Great Lakes

It’s still snowing in the Great Lakes after more than 5 feet fell over the holiday weekend and snarled travel, stranded motorists and buried homes. A short-lived break is coming before several inches of more snow and a blast of bone-chilling air arrive.

But first, an additional 1 foot of snow is possible through Tuesday in some of the same areas of the Great Lakes already blasted over the weekend as the current lake-effect snow event continues.

Snowfall totals have surpassed 5 feet in some areas, including Castorland, Copenhagen and Barnes Corners in northern New York, which have each received 69.5 inches. Lake-effect snow warnings remain in effect for parts of northeastern Ohio, northwestern Pennsylvania and southwestern New York.

4. Blizzard warning today until 1 am Saturday for all of Erie County, PA

50 to 60 mph winds with 2 more feet of snow in addition to the 4+ feet already accumulated from the holiday storm. This includes the city of Erie, and other towns and burroughs -- Waterford, Corry, Union City, Girard, Fairview, Albion and rural areas in between. Downed trees and power lines possible. Winds expected to diminish later this evening but snowfall will continue.

Western NY, south and east of Buffalo -- Additional 12 to 20 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 45 mph.

Buffalo and areas north of Buffalo -- winter advisory, snow showers, no high winds.

Northeastern Ohio -- heavy snowfall, winds 45 mph.
