Loners
Related: About this forumHow has everyone's week been?
I saw my doc this week and he's referring me for spinal injections. Since my liver betrayed me (sober for 2 months now), I can't take ANY pain meds.
I used to freak out about a needle being stuck in my spine. Now, I'm all Give it to me baby! Lol
Today is already hot, so I'm gonna spend it inside.
I made my bunny an Olympic floor matt out of blankets. She's great at the flutter bug, full twist, and back kick. Still working on the landing.
The cat watches intently, guarding my...uhumm. ...her bedroom door. The bunny won't let her near her cage, so I suppose they're even.
On my second cup of coffee. I miss my Irish cream.
How are my fellow loners doing?

(60,355 posts)I'm just grateful to be in air conditioning!
Heat index has been near 110 F every day.
I'd love to get out to grocery store, but no way can I take the heat & humidity! 100% humidity... and, in addition to heat advisories, we have an orange air quality alert.
Tomorrow is the last day for these ridiculous temps.
Best of luck with your injections, BSM.

(11,718 posts)I went a few days without heat during the last snow storm. Bundled up and survived. But I could no way handle going without air conditioning. I think I could live in a refrigerator

(60,355 posts)In less than 5 min in severe heat, I'm confused, shaking, & feeling sick.
Guessing I had heat exhaustion or something as a kid, since this reaction is quite an outlier.

(11,718 posts)How were the fireworks in your neck of the woods this year? My neighbors weren't too bad. They stopped shooting guns and fireworks around midnight. Better than last year.

(6,239 posts)I was excited to see some local entertainment venues start to open up. Then Delta came around, so I'm hunkered down again.
I hope that when I can finally go out and be around humans again that I can remember how to speak. Until then, grateful for my DU family here.
Best of luck with your pain management.

(11,718 posts)The drinking til I felt no pain became my medicine all last year.
I miss going to music festivals. That's one of the few events where I am comfortable in a crowd.

Hope you have a most excellent weekend.

And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
Ive heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
take care of yourself and be well. You have friends here.

(14,674 posts)I know it seems scary, but after your first time, youll do fine.
I just had steroid injections in my lower back on Tuesday. I have had them before in my upper back but this was the first time in my lower back. It has helped a lot with the pain. Its not gone but at least I can function. I was seriously starting to worry about being able to take care of myself.
The first time I had upper back injections I was given what was supposed to be a mild sedative. It had no affect on me, but I had no problems during the procedure. The doctor used a local anesthetic before injecting the steroids, so I didnt feel much even without sedation.
Since that first procedure, about three years ago, I have asked not to have any sedation, just the local anesthetic. So I am able to drive myself to and from the hospital, which makes me very happy. Im very stubborn and self-sufficient and I hate asking for help.
I am to the point now that, during the procedure, the doctor and I joke around while hes sticking needles into my spine. He used to know a girl with the same first and last name as me. He must have had a crush in her cuz he mentions her every time!
Anyway, you will be fine once you get beyond the initial fear.
I hope your procedure goes well and you get some relief! Congratulations on your two month anniversary!

(11,718 posts)It is scary to think about. The pain is so bad though, I can barely get up out of a chair.
I have an hour long drive to the hospital, so I hope I can go without sedation after a few times.
I was able to let out a deep breath after reading your experience with the injections.
Thank you.

(11,718 posts)I have a yoga mat. Not really sure how to do it, so I look like a dog rolling in the dirt.
I usually stretch and roll around until I'm either content or crying.
Even after the cry, I feel a bit better.
Are you confined at home or can you go outside?

(778 posts)It is always good to find another pet lover!
When I was in my forties, I had two spinal surgeries. One cervical spine and one lumbar spine and thankfully I turned out so well that I was able to work until retirement time. Because of a delay in surgery on my neck, thanks to my medical doctor who was an idiot, I ended up with pain in the scapula area and I also had trigger point injections into the muscles and spinal shots between the vertebrae, but neither really helped because they weren't designed for the issues I had. The surgery itself worked wonders and I wish I could have had it a week before I got to have it. I really wish you luck on this and hope things go well for you.
So far my week is going very nice. I have my lifetime soulmate and my two cats and we have a few neighbors who are friends and we visit Outdoors and we live in a beautiful area with a lot of nature and I get to enjoy that nearly every day. We have a few friends that we see a few times a week while we are out walking and we stick with only Pleasant people. It's too frustrating to deal with the other type. We are Outdoors people and nature lovers and have done a bit of bonding with others who are like-minded. We also stick with liberals. Things are too divisive now.
Thank you for starting this thread.👍👍👍

(5,300 posts)but I have had a busy month.
spent lots of time in the European Union and those countries do not play around with the covid. I feel safer over there than here, when you travel everyone has either had to show a vaccine card or show proof of vaccine to register for hotels and even some restaurants require the test results.
Much safer and more respect for the dire situation out of this country.
