SIOUX FALLS, S.D. As Gov. Kristi Noem continues a $6.5 million advertising campaign to attract more workers to South Dakota, her Department of Labor and Regulation is cutting positions and closing offices across the state, according to an email obtained by South Dakota News Watch.
Labor Secretary Marcia Hultman sent an email to South Dakota Job Services offices Dec. 14 informing them of 22 reductions in force resulting in office closures and the elimination of positions.
"These reductions are the result of federal funds not increasing while the cost of doing business has grown. We have dealt with this in recent years by gradually reducing staff and utilizing carry-over funds. However, the inflationary impacts of the past year called for a more targeted effort resulting in todays actions," Hultman wrote. "Those impacted have been notified in person, and I would like everyone to have the same facts."

(2,995 posts)Noem, like all Republicans, expects the feds to pay make their state better while bashing the federal government.
It never occurred to her and the rest of her party to spend money on salaries from the state budget.
It may get cut into all those tax cuts for fracking businesses or other businesses that will exploit the workers lured to work in her hell hole.

(680 posts)You mean the federal funds provided by everybody else's tax dollars that prop up your state's horrible tax policy?
"In order to pay for state and local government services, South Dakotas sales and excise taxes are 17 percent above the national average. Measured relative to personal income, South Dakota has the 14th highest sales and excise tax collections in the entire country. According to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), the poorest 20 percent of South Dakota households spend 8.7 percent of their income on these taxes, compared to just 1 percent of income for the states most affluent residents."
