Old Zen saying: "if you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him".

It means to keep an open mind and not believe something because some prominent practitioner says "you must believe this because it is doctrine and correct", go by your own experience rather than blindly following what some zen master or lama or Burmese abbot or New Age cult leader says.
