Until recently, you probably thought that the "men's rights movement" was just a weird fad on the Internet for sad, depressed guys who wanted to vent about their sexual frustrations, no more or less important to your day-to-day life than, say, people raging against bad movie reviews or complaining that their favorite video game company doesn't like them. But then something like the UCSB shooting happens, where a 22-year-old kid kills nine people and blames it on all the sex he never had, and you have to ask yourself: Is this group actually a problem?
Holy shit, yes. I spoke to Frank Meeink, a former white supremacist, and Michael Kimmel, a professor of sociology, about the men's rights movement, and I found out that it has less in common with any civil rights or equality movement than it does with goddamn neo-Nazis.....

This is an excellent article published today.

(53,661 posts)I'm sure you've seen these links before, but I'm passing it on to people. The article in the OP does go into forming a groupthink and blaming others but not on their rights as men.
The ones acting out with legal permission are hiding behind 'patriotism, freedom, liberty' and their 'second amendment rights.'
The fusillade of abuse women receive from them isn't about those issues. It was painstakingly nurtured into pure poison, and it's ruining young men who fall into their groupthink:

This one may be a trigger for some DUers. But it's worth the full read, plus the videos. It has many links worth going to as it pulls all the different threads together:

Sorry if these have been posted before, but I think they both, particularly the second one, show what most have suspected but have not seen explained so well. The MRA are not about the rights of men except their right to use and abuse women which is not even a worthwhile effort to most people.

Yup, that's the tip off. Anytime a group is mostly against something, rather than being for anything, it's a warning sign. There's a lot of parallels to right wing political groups who feel deeply oppressed as well.

(53,661 posts)That expresses it perfectly. I make a point not to interact with people like that here or anywhere else. Nothing of value can be exchanged.

(56,912 posts)I agree with that statement and it is why I am done with the bickering. I refuse to engage in it anymore. If it means I have to stay out of threads or have my voice silenced. Then, so be it. I am done with it.
Peace.

WRONG
How many people just flat out refuse to see this movement for what it is?
PUA artists talk about 'overcoming last minute resistance' - how many of these assholes are date rapists?
Father's Rights and Mens Rights groups are changing laws for the worse. Why do so few people seem interested in educating themselves about these groups?
I was horrified to see the FRA movement getting favorable comments in a thread in GD. But that's what happens when people don't educate themselves.

Even the loathsome mens rights types are really pretty tolerated by non-feminist society.
you see even some people who ought to know better buying their crap--amongst SOME domestic violence activists, it's apparently a thing to advocate legalizing/decriminalizing domestic violence (the parlance they use is "remove these cases from criminal courts and emphasize mediation and counseling" blah blah blah)
