The singer, Aaron Lewis, told the band to stop playing so he could make an announcement. As the crowd looked around, wondering what was going on, Lewis began berating several men he had seen groping the girl.
Alright, listen up, you f*cking *ssholes, Lewis said. That f*cking girl right there is, like, 15 f*cking years old, and you f*cking pieces of sh*t are molesting her while shes on the f*cking crowd.
A video taken at the concert captured Lewis angry callout and the crowd cheering his words. If the men who had done it thought that was it, Lewis was just getting started.
Your f*cking mothers should be ashamed of themselves, you pieces of sh*t, Lewis added. You should all be f*cking beaten down by everyone around you for being f*cking pieces of sh*t. If I f*cking see that sh*t again, I swear to God, I will point you out in the crowd and have everyone around you beat your f*cking *ss.

Major, well deserved smack down. I don't mind Staind, think I'll buy an album and send a thank you card.

(1,447 posts)They deserved every word of that! And, I believe they, and all the guys, of that type, in attendance, will get the message!

(36,155 posts)My next reaction was 'What? people actually crowd-surf to blands like Staind?' I think the last time I've seen anyone crowd-surfing was at a Pearl Jam show back in 1997. Come to think of it that was the last time I ever saw a mosh pit...

(13,324 posts)I was born in October '84, so grunge was basically the music of my childhood. Not to mention the bands like Screaming Trees and Afghan Whigs that I missed the first time around (via simply being too young) but have since discovered the greatness of.

I like to say we have 3 generations of Metallica fans, me, my oldest daughter (we were both young breeders) and Nate, my oldest grandson.

(13,324 posts)albums (especially 'Master of Puppets') so many times I probably never need to again.
Also, I played the self-titled AIC album a few times on a road trip this past week and was reminded how underrated that record is - certainly at least as good as 'Facelift' and just about up there with 'Dirt' and 'Jar of Flies' (both of which are big-time 90's favorites of mine).

(42,486 posts)I'd more or less stopped listening until hearing it again through the ears of my grandson--great stuff. Nate is so cute-- he tries to get his voice in the lower octaves like Layne, and almost makes it, 15 year boy voices are tough to manage.

(36,155 posts)I'll forgive the lack of appropriate levels of adoration from you and ismnot for Pearl Jam seeing as how you mentioned some bands I love. I had a real thing for the Afghan Whigs for a long time, even though (and I don't know if it makes sense) I found some of their music kind of sleazy like there was an oily film over it when I was listening to it. My big loves from that era apart from PJ and AIC were Mudhoney. Anyway, that whole Seattle thing wasn't the high point of the 90's for me. The high point was Pavement, Guided By Voices, Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh. One of my friends is a music snob and informed me that my dislike of going to the gym is because when I do go, I listen to 'slacker rock' which is designed to sap all my energy as I listen to it
nomorenomore08
(13,324 posts)And yeah, there is a compelling darkness, and I suppose "sleaziness," to the Whigs' music - Greg Dulli's persona was almost the antithesis of Cobain and Vedder's sensitivity. "Debonair" is probably one of the most brutally honest songs (from a male perspective) ever written.
"Pavement, Guided By Voices, Dinosaur Jr and Sebadoh."
Great stuff indeed. Malkmus, Pollard, Mascis, and Barlow are all musical geniuses in their own way, to varying degrees. Maybe not quite on the level of Bob Mould at his best, but who is?

(36,155 posts)Sorry. I feel like I'm turning this thread into the Music Appreciation Group, so I won't gush for long, but having a few years on you, listening to Husker Du for the first time in 1985 when a friend gave me a copy of New Day Rising and I rushed out the next day and got Zen Arcade, made me realise music wasn't just the boring new wave stuff of the era and opened the door to me discovering things like the Meat Puppets and the Pixies and the Replacements. Everything Bob Mould's done, from Sugar to his solo stuff has been stellar, though he did push the friendship a little bit when he did that rap thing on 'The Last Dog and Pony Show'...
Okay, I'll stop gushing now and leave everyone with some music that hasn't aged one iota since 1985, though my daughter argues strenuously that it has. I will admit that those ugly guitars have aged badly, though...

(11,065 posts)was only that she was underage. And I'm pissed off that he said their mothers should be ashamed of THEMSELVES rather than ashamed of their SONS for what their SONS did. It puts the blame not on the men that were sexually assaulting a teenager but on their mothers who had fuck all to do with it.... but trust a man to blame a woman anyway.
It further pisses me off that he saw what happened and didn't even have the men thrown out of the concert much less arrested.
Yes, it's great that he stopped the show to rage at them for what they did, but he didn't do anything tangible about a crime he witnessed other than telling them basically to not do it "again" and blamed their mothers for it rather then them. The FIRST time should have had them arrested. If these men had punched someone security would have been on their asses dragging them out to face law enforcement, but sexual assault of a teenager doesn't even earn getting thrown out of the concert. It isn't treated like the violent crime it is and got treated like an "oops".
And just why the hell do people even bother taking video that's not only so narrow but sideways! And then to bother putting it on YouTube.

(5,005 posts)at the very least. It would have been even better if the girl had a half-dozen or so ex-marine uncles in attendance.
Maybe losing a few teeth would've served as a, shall we say, more visceral lesson for these troglodytes.

It is sad that it is considered progress for people to at least not blame the girl who was molested.
The bar is SO fucking low where misogyny is concerned.

(14,350 posts)She also wondered if the guys got out of there without anything happening to them. She couldn't see because she was in the back, but she said that everyone around her agreed that they likely didn't.
