Standing in line at the convenience store today when the two folks in front of me turn out to be acquaintances meeting up after not seeing each other for a while. The woman is noticeably pregnant. The man congratulates her on her pregnancy.
Woman, disgusted: "Yeah, I'm having a girl."
Man: "Sucks, doesn't it?"
Woman: "Yeah, me and my husband, we don't want no damn girl."
Man, looking askance: "Um... you might want to be careful saying that, you know."
Woman: "I don't care who knows. I don't want no damn girl."
Sheesh. Good luck to that little girl.

(40,416 posts)Both the future mom and her daughter. How can this work out well? And how did this woman come to this conclusion?
As the only male sibling of three, my jaw drops. I just do not understand such rampant misogyny. I never will.

(19,964 posts)I mean, she was really pissed, as if she had been cheated from having a boy. My heart goes out to that future little girl. And heaven help her if there's ever a second child and it's a boy.

(3,962 posts)mother could do would be to give her up for adoption. Because people who adopt do so because they want a child and someone might want a little girl. She'll grow up feeling a lot more loved than she would growing up with her natural--or maybe I should say, unnatural--mother.

(19,964 posts)Yes, I feel so badly for that future little girl. It's hard enough in this world without feeling like you were born a bitter disappointment.
