Related: About this forumWow! I just heard something that chilled me to my core ...
While on a break from work, I was walking by one of the Frat Houses. A group of young men came out, laughing, as they apparently were headed to class.
I don't know what they were talking about; but one of the guys said, "Dude ... If she gets a restraining order, does that mean we have to switch schools?"
Again, I don't know what the conversation was; but I suspect something really bad happened (in that house) recently.

(106,984 posts)I used to live in a neighborhood proximal to two Frat houses. I couldn't take a walk, bicycle, or do anything whatsoever without being verbally derided by these cretins, who felt totally free to scream about my physical attributes (or lack thereof), pace, 'f'-quotient, and every other ugly comment they could think of. They were just so damned entitled and that no doubt translates into their behavior day to day.

(24,076 posts)To that end, I couldn't be prouder of my oldest son. (OK, I'm immensely proud of both of my boys!) But the big one is 6' 1" and 190 lbs, and is the starting catcher for his college baseball team. Two nights a week he volunteers to be on call between 9:00 pm and 2:00 am in order to be available to escort women to and from the library, or anywhere else on campus they may need to travel.
Unless one has done it, I'm not sure they can comprehend how strenuous it is to balance the demands of keeping up academically with the tremendous amount of time needed to play an NCAA sport. I know he would rather have that time to study, hang out with his girlfriend, or, most probably, sleep! But when I talked to him about it, he simply said that "This is important".
Did I say that I'm really proud of him?

(110,159 posts)important as his academic and ncaa play, but, you are right. it is hard. says a heel of a lot about your son. cause his awareness goes beyond these two nights.
this is such a good story to hear 11. thank you for sharing it. the positive is always so welcome.
my son is trying to pull straight A's this year. his first year, more a challenge than what he expected. while doing running, both fall and spring. between two day practice and meets out of town, it is a challenge. he does not have much time left.
so, a hug to your son. and thank you. it speaks loudly that your son chooses to do this for the young women on campus.
wow. thanks.
