http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/09/4chan-responds-to-emma-watsons-feminist-speech-at-un-with-photo-countdown-clock/Over the weekend, Harry Potter actress Emma Watson delivered an impassioned speech aimed at ending gender inequality to which online hacking group 4chan responded by creating a site called Emma You Are Next, which alleges to count down the time until a 4chan user will release nude photographs of her.
Shortly after her graduation from Brown University, Watson was named UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Her speech on Saturday marked the first time she spoke to the assembly as a whole, and she did so on behalf of the HeForShe campaign.
HeForShe is an effort, in her words, to try and galvanize as many men and boys as possible to be advocates for gender equality. And we dont just want to talk about it, but make sure it is tangible.
The more I have spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that fighting for womens rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating, Watson said. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop. For the record, feminism, by definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.

(17,802 posts)... if our society learned to stop stigmatizing sex and nudity. Oh, no doubt they'd find something else to pick on.

(110,159 posts)all the rest has fallen alongside the road still work to be done. but the constant effort and means in degrading and humiliating women is don for purpose.
our view on sex and nudity means nothing. cause like with rape.... it is about dominate control, thru humiliation and degradation we can see the effort in the porn today.
it is done with purpose.

(17,802 posts)Me, I'm baffled why young men would create role models out of males who so obviously have no manhood... the only conclusion I can reach is that we confuse sound and fury with true strength. Even though the latter is almost always quiet and confident, not hysterical.

(110,159 posts)these are what our boys are growing up on, these are what our men are being fed.
there is NO surprise in this. i would like us to get beyond the surprise. we see it in every facet of our society in all ways
humiliate and degrade a womans sexuality. at all cost. in every way.

(45,274 posts)American cultural messages about gender roles have been poisonous, pathological and crippling to people of both sexes for generations. Men have been taught, propagandized, coerced and beaten into numbmess for their own pain.
"Suck it up," the coach yells when a 10 year-old football player shows pain. "Don't be a pussy." Double message--It's "girlish" to feel pain, and girls are lesser beings, not to be emulated.
A boy who has been numbed to his own pain makes a better soldier because he is numbed also to the pain of others; thus his capacity for empathy and compassion is diminished at the source.
We, the human species, could be so much more.

(110,159 posts)then i think the later 90's we started feeling the backlash.
the reason i really say a decade and a half, is because with the net, and the inumdation of the porn, we opened the world up in a mass experiment.
i think, that is the escalation of all this.
the net has had a profound effect on who we are as people, literally.

(45,274 posts)on a broad range of issues as a culture from the time of the New Deal until sometime between Nixon and Reagan, depending on which particular aspects of the general trend we ware talking about.
My wife would take it back to the JFK Assassination, which she sees as the moment the overthrow of elected government in the US succeeded.
And I think we must acknowledge that there were serpents as well in the post-Rooseveltian Garden. The CIA, the Cold War, Joe McCarthy, J. Edgar, (as far as I'm concerned) Poppy Bush, many others.

(1,708 posts)She shouldn't be deterred by threats from scumbags! What is the taboo about seeing a woman's body? Women were god's/gods' most beautiful creation. Women are a work of art. Seeing a nude woman/man shouldn't have a stigma attached to it.
