(40,416 posts)Too many DUers are acting like children. Just the fact that DU has fractured into Warren/Clinton/Sanders forums with their obligatory rubbish safe haven rules tells that DU has been Balkanized.
Who does that serve? Certainly not Democrats.
And now DU is tearing itself apart about BLM.
I've been here for years, back when DU was a place where we helped each other and supported Democratic candidates. But I could not be sadder than I am now.
And far too many here are acting like two year olds. DU is sucking these days.

This American thing of starting a year and a half is just downright insane. It's like the longest bar-fight scene in history.
One thing I think> This election is not like the past, in the sense that there are 2 candidates with equal support that split DU down the middle.
Having said that, I'm not sure what the answer is to all of this fighting and worse I don't even know the right questions.

I don't know what the answer is either. DU is an 11 year old habit with me. I hate seeing it tear itself apart like this.

(42,478 posts)redqueen got out voluntarily-she had had it with with wholesale acceptance and encouragement of sexism--and permanently I think. Boston Bean has had it. Bravenek was silenced.
I know of others who have quietly left and won't be returning.
So, the feminists who don't "play nice" or "lighten up" leave or are silenced. There has been a steady trickle of black posters leaving for a while now. The GBLT community here is much diminished. The Jewish group is nearly empty.
What is going on?
And I agree. Fuck this shit.

(54,934 posts)I was taught I could not speak about sexism and misogyny without getting hides. As a survivor of domestic violence, I could not say victim blaming was hurtful because that constituted "bullying" and therefore was hidden. With HOF a shadow of its former self, existing in name only, attention turned to African American posters who were showed they could not speak of their experiences with white liberals without having that hidden. One cannot challenge the majority's sense of their own righteousness. Social justice pales in comparison. There is nothing left but outrage that everyone doesn't stand in awe of their great "progressive" superiority. The politics of entitlement and narcissism rule the day--another truth that will be hidden.

(42,478 posts)It still a projection vomit fest for those so entitled. They won't see. I'm sure they can see, this a choice they make.

(63,221 posts)I only come on periodically, so I am often unaware of the drama that goes on here. However I am very sorry to hear of those losses. They were very powerful voices that needed to be heard. Very sad indeed.

(22,165 posts)With much of the AA community gone, much of the strong feminist voices gone, the Jewish community members .... the LGBT community ... who do we have left? Why would anyone think the absence of a diversity of voices is a good thing?

(2,548 posts)Who benefits from the silence - or perhaps, silencing - of so many good people?
It is going on across DU, which makes me wonder who wants to shut it - DU - down, or at least neuter/neutralise it.
To whom is DU a threat?
It is almost as if there is a deliberate attempt to make us fight each other - divide and conquer. Let's you and him fight.
Then look at the forums from which people have been chased. Women, African-Americans, Jews (others maybe) - a very large part of the core of the Democratic Party.
I am rather sure that the beneficiaries of the silence are NOT Democrats.
