We will have the first female presidential candidate on a major party ticket, with a good shot of winning it all!
YaY! I am ecstatic! I'm overjoyed! I am proud of Hillary!

(6,486 posts)America is moving forward. Britain, canada, and germany have already elected their first female leaders. All of the barriers are being busted now.

(10,345 posts)Rather than her gender, thus weakening feminism for all.
But alas, she'll be a shining example that using your gender to get ahead rather than your qualities is a "good" example of feminism.
"Half my cabinet will be female!"
Doesn't matter, can you have a cabinet that does the right thing regardless of gender? Oh wait, you're just pandering. Oh well.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)You have a giant playground out there to drop a turd, why choose to post this insulting bullshit in a safe haven feminist group? Just wanted us to be aware of your hatred? Ok, thanks we are aware. Maybe you and the others invading our space would consider deleting and moving on to somewhere else.

(10,345 posts)This feminist disagrees.
Sorry, Hillary's actions are not emblematic to feminism, nor is she an ambassador to the idea.
No hatred in pointing out Hillary's actions.

(42,478 posts)Both in the actions of and symbolism of Hillary Clinton, this is an incredible powerful and pivotal moment in history. Republicans have let history pass them by. Democrats go forward into it, go with it, MAKE it.

(10,345 posts)Sorry.
Sure it's monumental. First American woman president.
But history is going to show that our possible first woman president lied about her opponent and accepted voter suppression to win it. She talked down to BLM and shouted down Greenpeace.
Not totally awesome. It's good because yay first woman, but at what cost?

(14,274 posts)Weakest argument they've thrown out there yet.
In another thread someone else used the same line that we shouldn't give a shit about electing the first female president here since it's been done elsewhere in the world. And then tried to make comparisons with some of the most fucked up right wing women out there, like we don't know the fucking difference. I bet they would love it if the GOP used that argument against implementing universal healthcare? Meh, who gives a fuck, they already did that elsewhere in the world, amirite?

(53,866 posts)We can't tell the difference between coulter and Hillary, when the reality is that we can and its your hatred that blinds you to celebrate this historic moment for the county
Were you confused about the difference between Obama and Clarence Thomas too?
You people need to get over yourselves
fasttense
(17,301 posts)You are merely celebrating she is a woman, not that she is liberal or anything.
La Lioness Priyanka
(53,866 posts)doesn't mean the rest of us are.
it's not like feminist on DU were celebrating Palin. We know exactly why we are celebrating. pity that you don't recognize it and cannot participate in this celebration. really sucks to be you.
the rest of us though, and excited for Hillary Clinton, and yes in part for her gender because actual representation matters. The fact that she is a Democrat and a liberal are a given for DU. Only the deliberately obtuse would deny that.
fasttense
(17,301 posts)The original post said NOTHING about her being liberal. Probably because we all know Hillary is no more liberal than Obama is.
But Yeah, we have a woman on the verge of taking over the president's job. Yeah, Rah-Rah.
La Lioness Priyanka
(53,866 posts)yeah she is just as liberal as Obama and that is liberal enough for most people and most Democrats.

Rarely is the need to reiterate or restate an obvious-- except for the benefit of those who will refuse it regardless.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)who think they can shower us with their special brand of criticism. Imagine that, a feminist group that is excited about having a woman on the verge of becoming president. How dare we celebrate such a thing in a group dedicated to fighting the patriarchy.
Funny you should come in here slinging mud everywhere and then complain that it's not a contest. You got 100 other forums you can go stink up, so why don't you just show yourself out.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)Your argument is a fucking joke and you know it.

(17,301 posts)It is celebrating that a woman is on the verge of becoming president. I would rather celebrate that she were a liberal woman.

(3,180 posts)stepping into another supposed safe haven group and deliberately ignoring the SOP in hopes of being banned and then running to ATA and whining about being banned for "simply attempting to have a discussion". Your agenda is not nearly as subtle as you seem to believe.

(22,437 posts)not a safe haven for Hillary supporters.
There's already a room for them.
I am a feminist who supports Bernie Sanders.
I don't dislike Hillary because she is a woman.
I dislike her for her lying and her lust for war.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)You just dropped in to defend that poster who compared Hillary to some right wing assholes? The OP was celebrating an historic achievement for women in making it as far as she has. It's not celebrating men because they have always been in control. How does supporting Hillary or Bernie change that? And why do you think it's ok that he dropped in here and dropped that turd in the middle of this group?
Please explain why you think that was ok. You could have just ignored this thread if you don't believe feminists should be celebrating progress. I get that you don't like Hillary. I know you are a feminist. I don't know why you chose to defend that guy or make negative comments about celebrating an historic moment.
PassingFair
(22,437 posts)As a Bernie Sanders supporter, I feel run out of this group.
It does not surprise me, as I saw early signs of this bullying behavior.
JTFrog
(14,274 posts)I just thought that it would be nice if people could respect that it's a feminist group and that we are celebrating a special moment in women's history. It shouldn't matter who anyone supports. It's still historical for women. And this group is History of Feminism. It makes sense that we would discuss this.
And I know you know that this group has never really tolerated people like that guy jumping in and making his nasty comments.
I'm sorry if I came off harsh. I know you helped make this group. I was just taken aback by some posts in this thread.
PassingFair
(22,437 posts)I will jump on the bandwagon when my train runs out of steam, though

(15,269 posts)acknowledge a few things.
1/ This is a group and not a forum. IOW read the SOP.
2/ this is a group for feminists. IOW We get to celebrate women who have changed history, but also make history.
3/ Seeing as this is a group for feminists, we don't particularly fucking care what YOU think we should be celebrating
UtahLib
(3,180 posts)bright enough to recognize the fact that Hillary is the only qualified candidate. That she is a woman who has the resume of lifelong dedication to service is icing on the cake.
Sorry, Boston, that there are those on this Democratic site who simply cannot resist dumping on a positive thread in what is supposed to be a safe haven for feminists. Their lack of self restraint in their single minded effort to demonize Hillary says everything we need to know about them.
GO HILLARY!!!

(80,708 posts)I'm not going to get into the "official" versus "pretty damn likely" or "mathematically certain" debate. Fact is, we all know what the results of this primary contest are quite likely to be, and no question it is historic. Bigtime.
In the hustle and bustle of a contested and sometimes difficult primary season on DU, that salient fact should not be ignored or papered over.
You all deserve to celebrate it. We all should. It is overdue.

(162 posts)Good Lord, if she doesn't, what does that say about the intelligence of the American voting public? I mean, all you have to do is read the transcripts of some conversations with Trump to realize that the man doesn't have any two brain cells rubbing together. He has never once, to my knowledge, completed a thought or finished a sentence. It's like there's a blizzard going on inside his skull.
And I'm not even talking about his racist and sexist dog whistles and nonsensical policy positions; those speak for themselves. I'm talking about basic intelligence, of which he appears to have very little. GWB, bless him, wasn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but at least he had a belief system that he was sincere about. Trump is all about the size of his dick and how many buildings he can get his name on.
Ms. Clinton is going to mop the floor with him if he dares to face her in a debate.
Oh, and to the posters here claiming that Hillary is not a liberal please; half the people in the country think she's a communist for chrissakes. Just because she won't make empty promises about free everything doesn't make her a right winger. Jeezus.
