DU Community Help
Related: About this forumQuotes being trashed. New for me, and quite the nuisance. ¿
No idea what's going on unless it has to do with the computer inserting "smart quotes"
I read the earlier post on this.
I restart the computer daily,(1) and just restarted Firefox.
(1) If I just turn off the monitor, the attached drives unmount .... So just shut down at night.
Hoping that some detective with fewer backlogged chores and bills to pay can figure this out.
I normally tell the computer not to substitute smart quotes (nor any other doo-dads)

(28,239 posts)With editing your post.
I noted posts with glyphs were most of the time edited .
If you attempt to edit your post , expect the glyphs to show up .

(24,806 posts)Maybe it's text editing code on DU's end.
I'll keep trying.
Sometimes, I use GhostText, which mirrors my text in a straight text editor (crash prevention) and I'll experiment with that. Yikes I have important chores to do. Damn computers will eat up your day.
Seriously, if I want orange juice, I have to clear some stuff I was sorting through in the pantry and which ended up outside the fridge door.
Thanks for the input.

(23,585 posts)a behind the scenes change we made not too long ago in our firewall configuration. After that change, the garbled text problem occurred. I disabled the change recently (for an unrelated reason), and the problem seemed to go away. This morning I re-enabled the change, and voila, it seems to be affecting things again.
Bottom line, Ill disable this change again and see if that fixes the problem.
