Adding my Ex. to my SS account. Has anyone done this? How do we do it?
We both collect SS. My benefits are $500 more per month. I heard that it is possible to combine the accounts so that she gets the same amount as I do, or maybe a percentage.
Anyone have information on this?

(7,080 posts)1. She can contact SS and present herself
using an ex-spouses SS income. She has to have been married to you for at least 10 years

to someone on the phone or in person. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. You need do nothing. Shes probably getting the correct amount already.

married 10 years (as mentioned above). But, usually it works out that the spouse is better off with their own benefit. But I'm not positive.
