Hey guys. I've never posted in this group, so thanks for your thoughts.

I had an idea about gun safety while mourning an 8 year old who died while playing with a gun in Little Rock. My soul hurts and my mind is trying to cope with lots of sad and emotional feelings.

What if guns were all sold in a safety case (like instrument cases) that had finger print locking. A chip could be placed on the weapon to connect it to a chip in the case.

The owner is registered in a database and they are responsible and accountable for the gun if it's opened.

I keep my guitar in a case, both to protect it and to keep my nieces from being popped by a broken string ( if you've ever been cut or stabbed by these strings, you know they could put an eye out).

They could be made light weight for "concern".

Not sure if this has been thought of before, but it seems like a reasonable action that can be taken.

I just feel helpless and want to make the world safer for our children.

1. It is reasonable. But too many gunners are opposed to registration, are too cheap

to pay a little extra to save a kid, are skeptical of anything that impedes access to their gun in the unlikely event it’s needed quickly, and I’m not sure most really care that much about safety.

But it is a good idea. Sooner or later, we are going to have to ignore the whining and do something to protect people from too many guns in society.

It would be nice to be able to engage in reasonable discussions with the gun "enthusiasts" in my rural biodome. Im seeing more and more people wearing pro-gun shirts and sporting ridiculous decals on vehicles.

I even entertained the thought that my area is being target advertised to.

Maybe if the cases were marketed and personalized, like an accessory?

If the gun makers took the initiative, they could make some money while promoting safety. The greedy death machine companies are masters of propaganda. There could be alot of money made.

Appeal to the higher greed of the arms makers by giving them a new and mandatory product....like car insurance companies?

3. Safe storage is one issue that Moms Demand Action

has as part of their agenda. They DO NOT promote confiscation or registration. The Be Smart program addresses safe storage and how to talk about it with your neighbors, and yes YOU have to talk about it with people you know.

7. MDA is very aware of language and perceptions.

They actually have suggested verbiage to minimize adverse reactions to preconceived perceptions of gun owners.

We have to get past stereotypes to be heard and to listen.

Find a MDA meeting near you and just hang out for an hour or so. No information exchanged or collected. No commitment, just see if it's a comfortable fit.

welcome to GCRA.

It's a great idea, but as others have said the Second Amendment absolutists and right-wing gun nuts will never agree to anything that restricts their "right" to guns for everyone, everywhere.

At some point the rational and sane people of this nation will outnumber the gun crazies and meaningful gun control will be implemented. We are making progress, but we need to remember that the gunners had decades to build their NRA terrorist organization.

9. No use trying to reason with them.

Gun owners specifically. But bring a good idea to market and the right law maker sees it and they'll go over the heads of the owners and the manufacturers.
